Donington Testing: Sergio Campana (Ibiza Racing Team) sets new track record

Sergio Campana, driving for Ibiza Racing Team, clocked the fastest lap of the day in the Auto GP collective test held today at Donington Park. The Modena-based man, who ran in 1'17"665, beat the previous record set by Kevin Ceccon in 2011 by 8 tenths of a second. The Super Nova International team secured second and third with Narain Karthikeyan and Vittorio Ghirelli separated by just 0.002s in the PM segment. The best personal best laptime for the Indian came in the morning session though, when he topped the field in 1'17"857.

The top-5 was rounded out by the Ghinzani Motorsport drivers. Romanian Robert Visoiu, the youngest driver in the field, topped Kevin Giovesi by just 1 thousand of a second. Championship leader Kimiya Sato (Euronova Racing) took 6th in front of Tamas Pal Kiss (Ibiza Racing Team) and Meindert Van Buuren (MP Motorsport). The Dutchman ended up off-track with less than two minutes to go, an incident that eventually brought out the red flag. Completing the top-10 were Virtuosi UK's Max Snegirev and MP Motorsport's Daniel De Jong.

Andrea Roda (Virtuosi UK) did not take part in the PM session. The Como-based driver crashed on the outside of turn 5, damaging the left and rear sides of his car. After exiting unscathed from the incident while running in third at his Donington debut, Roda was preventing from making his way back on-track and will have to wait until Saturday's practice to rejoin the pack.
